We're Really Rock'n Now!

Hello and thanks for checking in with us :) We've successfully completed our first full week back! While many students looked tired by mid afternoon, a few were so tired, that "is it home time yet" became one of the most common questions. So let's hope we all get well rested for the amazing week ahead of us.

This week in Language Arts, we worked on building our Reading Stamina. Our goal is to sustain reading attention for 20 minutes (or one round of Daily Five). To date, our best time has been just over 5 minutes, so we will continue to work on this in the coming weeks. We've also spent some time writing as we delve back into literacy activities. Other activities include word searches and of course, listening as I read the story Holes by Louis Sachar (great book!).

In Math, we've started collecting and representing data. We've collected facts by using tally marks, and then transfer our findings to complete bar graphs. We've also created a Reading Stamina Chart (bar graph) to show our daily progress.

In Science, we've began looking at Rocks and Minerals. We've discussed some of the many ways in which humans and animals use rocks and even learned that the glass in our windows is actually made from sand -- or rocks! And of course, this rock'd our world! We will soon be looking at the rock cycle along with different types of rocks. Students will be allowed to bring in a few of their cherished rocks soon - but please wait until we've learned enough to begin analyzing or classifying them based on the properties which may take a couple of weeks.

In PE we've been working on cooperative games and have learned to work together while playing games like Sharks and Minnows or Bug Tag.

Next Week:
