We may not know what "regrouping" means yet, but we're getting it!

Hello and welcome back! We've had another busy, yet great week of learning! Here's a quick look at what we've been working on...

Language Arts - we finished our week with our final Words Their Way test. We will be re-assessing their spelling skills next week and placing them into new groups for the duration of the year. New words will likely begin coming home in a week or two. We continued working with our guided reading groups and will be self-assessing our reading skills next week. In writing, we are learning how to add details to make our writing more interesting. In Wishtree, Red broke the rule and spoke to Stephen and Samar in hopes of granting Samar's wish to find a friend. This book has been a wonderful addition to our discussions around acceptance, kindness, and quality of life.

In Math, it's all about regrouping when subtracting. We went old school on this and broke regrouping down to mean carrying for addition and borrowing for subtraction. We also spent more time working with word problems to ensure we understand the questions. We're right on track and should be starting multiplication in two to three weeks :)

Our Social Inquiry has moved from Rights & Responsibilities to Needs vs. Wants. We then began discussing the differences between Developed and Developing Countries and found out that all us are very thankful that we have indoor plumbing! (and health care, schools, jobs, transportation...). We are now trying to compare and determine who has the better "quality of life" between two fictional characters, Jose or Emma?

In PE we started week one of skipping and quickly learned how badly we need to build our stamina! We are currently working on various skills from skiing to crossovers and everything in between.
