Oh yes it was, or should I say, still is. As you know, we've had to postpone our annual winter walk due to the extremely cold temperatures. Of course, we've also had to cancel all outdoor activities - and next week is shaping up for more of the same. Well, we all knew it was coming. This is Canadian winter after all... thank you for ensuring everyone is bundled up!
Due to these frigid temperatures, we've had indoor recesses where children can choose between playing games in the Gymnasium, doing arts, crafts, or playing board games in the Learning Commons, or watching movies in the Music room. Although students enjoy these options, it's apparent that they simply need to run around and play outside. Sadly, the cold weather hasn't helped. We've experienced a couple weeks of abnormal behaviour and have needed several reminders of expected behaviour in the classroom as a number of our classmates have engaged in excessively loud socializing and disrespectful behaviour. Thank you to the students who put forth an effort to make Friday a better day :)
A snapshot of last week's learning activities:
Language Arts: Daily Five activities, Guided Reading, and note taking during Social Inquiry - students are learning how to extract and record key points of information as we continue learning about Peru.
Math: students are doing a wonderful job of remembering when and how to regroup when solving subtraction questions. Please ask you child to tell you the subtraction poem!
Social: It's all about the culture of Peru. We're learning about the many aspects that make up a countries culture from "fiestas" to food and music to languages. Ask your child about the "Quena" they brought home Friday.
