Thanks-giving is always better than receiving...

Thank you for checking in again and I hope you get to enjoy some quality time with friends and family this weekend :)

We spent some time reflecting on the things we're thankful for and not surprisingly, having a home, having food, and having a loving family took top spots. But several of us also remembered that many people in the world do not have the things we tend to take for granted.

This week we worked on an amazing Fall/ Thanksgiving ART Project that hangs proudly in the hall.

In Language Arts, we've included Listening to Reading as our fourth Daily Five Choice. We learned that The One and Only Ivan is actually based on a true story about a gorilla named Ivan who lived in a mall in Tacoma Washington. Children saw real images of Ivan and were happy that he was moved to a zoo where he lived happily to the age of 50. We are now reading one of my personal favourites - The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. (and yes...I suppose I do have many favourites).

In Math, we began looking at patterns and realized that even reading the calendar shows patterns. We worked on using our names as patterns, looked at patterns on numbers lines, and even began looking at skip-counting patterns. But most importantly, we now know we have to state the pattern rule of numerical patterns. Ask your child what this means for a pattern that increases by 3.

In Science we are examining rock samples and trying to identify our samples based on the properties of: texture, shape, colour, and lustre. We are drawing 3-D versions of our samples and have enjoyed seeing the rocks our friends have brought in.

Looking Ahead:
