Orange October

This week began with Orange Shirt Day, a day that reminds us that each and every child matters, and that they need to feel like they belong with their friends, family, and community. Thank you for your support with this important message.

This week also brought a lot of snow, snowballs, fort fights, and injuries. Please remind your child, when the snow returns, that throwing snow can be very hurtful and is not allowed on school property.

TWAS (this week at school):

We are now up to 4 choices during Daily Five and will begin Reading to Someone next week for the full selection. Reading conferences are ongoing and we have been working on setting goals or next steps for decoding words or building reading fluency. We've been enjoying The One and Only Ivan. Raz-Kids log-in information was sent home this week and students can now listen to reading as one of their Daily Five choices.

* Please remember that Raz-Kids levels ARE NOT the same as the levels assigned at school. I will be monitoring the account and will re-adjust as needed. Please contact me if you any questions.

In math, we're just about finished our unit on Data Management and will begin looking at patterns in numbers next week. I have also sent home their new log-in information on Prodigy, a math inspired on-line game.

* Please note that if your child already has an account, their work will not be linked to my account so please have them use the new one so I can see their progress. **A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: In the beginning, Prodigy is monitoring your child's progress in an attempt to find their current skill level. The game will begin at grade two curriculum objectives and gradually get harder. As this is a multiple choice system, students CAN and SOMETIMES DO go above and beyond the grade three curriculum. Remember, we all learn from making mistakes!

Science still Rocks! Students are really excited to bring in and share their treasured rocks next week :)

Next Week:

Fun Lunch Wednesday (Subway)

No classes Friday (PD Day)

No classes Monday Oct. 14th (Thanksgiving)

Have a great weekend!
