Hello and thank you for checking in with us again this week :)

We had an incredibly exciting week. Of course we celebrated Halloween with Costume Day on Wednesday, but we also decorated pumpkins for the Halloween Howler on Tuesday, and welcomed November with PJ Day on the 1st. So in all, we had a lot going on. Although our pumpkin contest entry didn't win the pizza party prize, we know we did an amazing job :)

Since my last post, we've also had a chance to meet and share some our success stories during Parent Teacher Interviews so there really is a lot to catch up on. A huge THANK YOU goes out to one of our parents who graciously offered their time and delivered an amazing presentation on Geology and the work that some geologists do. This was truly an excellent opportunity for your child.

Speaking of geology, we are wrapping up our time with rocks and minerals and will be moving toward Mapping in Social and Hearing in Sound for Science.

This week in...

Language Arts:

Despereaux has just had his tail cut off and Roscuro, with the help of Mig, has taken the Pea to the dungeon! Kate DiCamillo truly is a tremendous author and we have been collecting some of her words to expand our vocabulary. Today we talked about "empathy" as the Princess Pea was empathetic towards Mig. We have also collected: perfidy, ominous, aspirations, and gratitude. We have continued working on Daily Five literacy activities and reading strategies through cafe lessons. We also received our Words Their Way words this week. Students are to practice their sorts and understanding the patterns for next week's test. I sent a fun game home today.

Math:

We worked on a special Halloween math booklet that combined place value activities with cartesian art. Today, we talked about rounding to the nearest tens or hundreds and using standard / expanded / base ten / and word form to represent numbers as we continue working with and understanding the importance of place value.

Next week:

Fun Lunch is Wednesday Nov. 7th (Subway)

We will be working on several Remembrance Day activities in preparation of our Remembrance Day Assembly next Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOUR CHILD IS INVOLVED IN CUBS OR SCOUTS, PLEASE WEAR YOUR UNIFORM TO NEXT WEEK'S ASSEMBLY.

Remember to set your clocks back 1 hour this weekend!

Have a great weekend and GO STAMPS!
