Lest We Forget

As the 100th Anniversary of Armistice draws nearer, we took the time to reflect on the meaning of Remembrance Day, and today we participated in a wonderful assembly. Thanks also goes to our parent volunteer who helped create this lovely wreathe.

Well, another week has flown past. Here's a snapshot of what we did:

Language Arts - Daily Five most days, met and worked with our guided reading groups, worked on our story writing, played word work games (sent copies home earlier this week), and had our first Words Their Way spelling test today (new words Monday). We also finished reading The Tale of Despereaux - what an amazing story! I must confess it is one my personal favourite read aloud novels.

Math - we continued working with the concept of Place Value through our math centers. We also set up and worked with the new online game Prodigy, a replacement of sorts for Mathletics. Hopefully students will engage with this at home too. Remember, Prodigy is completing a placement test to ensure you play at your specific skill level. If the questions are too difficult now, they will become easier over time.

Social Inquiry - we began looking at the globe and are learning about: cardinal directions, compass rose, continents, oceans, hemispheres, equator, and poles.

Next week:

Please note we DO HAVE REGULARLY SCHEDULED CLASSES ON MONDAY the 12th

Tuesday - the gym will be used for the Olympic plebiscite all day (PE will be outside if the weather cooperates - please dress accordingly)

Thursday evening is Math Night - please stop by and pick up a few tricks or games to play at home.

Bake Sale Thursday evening - please drop by and support the Cranston School Fundraising Society.

Have a great weekend!
