Hello and thank you for checking in with us again :)
This week at school (TWAS):
Language Arts - we've continued working on our reading and writing skills through Daily Five activities, and we've also been listening to reading while enjoying The Tale of Despereaux. We had a spelling test to determine our skill level so we can begin our Words Their Way program (a spelling / word work program based on your child's current abilities), and we've have also started learning cursive!
Math - we've been working on patterning and played a few rounds of jeopardy as we look at repeating, increasing, and decreasing patterns. We are trying to explain the pattern rule, and we're learning how to communicate our thinking by using T-charts to solve questions. For example, ask your child to use a T-chart to solve this and bring it back to school Monday. A cow has 4 legs and there are 6 cows in the filed - how many legs are there altogether?
Science - we've continued looking at the properties of rocks or minerals to help us classify them. The five properties we're learning about are: colour, texture, luster, hardness, and shape. Next week we will be doing an independent study on a few of our favourite types of rocks.
PE - children have enjoyed playing cooperative games with the parachute :)
And of course - we had Club Friday!!
Next week:
Please note - our school is being used by elections Canada so we will be closing off the hub to allow voters access to the gym. Lunch will be eaten in the classrooms beginning at 11:25 and the whole school will have recess together after eating.
