Apparently T'is the Season... for more learning :)

And just like that, another month comes to a close. While we put November behind us, we look forward to the many opportunities and challenges ahead of us. And then we rest.

So here's a snapshot of learning this week:

Language Arts:

We finished reading Norton Justers' The Phantom Tollbooth. This book took us on a journey, or quest, through imagined places such as Dictionoplois, Digitopolis, the Sea of Knowledge, and the Forest of Ignorance in hopes of rescuing the princesses Rhyme and Reason, without whom nothing would make sense. We learned about the playfulness of words and the need to push through impossible odds or tasks to achieve greatness. We then began reading our newest novel, The Wild Robot by Peter Brown.

Along with our Daily Five literacy choices, we've also been working with our Spelling words (Words Their Way - WTW) and reading with our buddies.

Math:

We continue working with Place Value to enhance our understanding of larger three digit numbers. We'll be working on the concept of regrouping for addition using base ten materials next as we move into our computation unit next.

Social:

It's been all about Mapping. We've created a map of our learning space and now we're working to complete our own Personal Island Maps, loosely based on out novel The Phantom Tollbooth.

Science:

We will begin our exploration of Hearing and Sound Next week.

PE:

We've been working on our Volleyball skills the past two weeks.

Next Week:

Fun Lunch Wednesday the 4th (East Side Mario's)

Field Trip Thursday the 5th (National Music Center)

Have a great weekend!
