And... they're off! (running that is)

Thank you for your donations and support again this year! It may have been a cold and wet day, but we knew Terry ran through it, so we could too.

Our week at a glance:

Langage Arts:

We continued working on our reading stamina and have almost reached 17 minutes. Our Daily Five choices still include reading to self, work on writing, and word work (bananagrams and word searches). Next week we work on reading to someone and listening to reading. We finished reading out first novel, Holes, and are anxiously wanting to know if we'll be watching the movie, but that is for me to know and you to find out later :) . We've started reading The One and Only Ivan... another great book! Finally, we helped our PM Kindergarten buddies today with the concepts of "community" and "belonging" as we prepare for Orange Shirt Day on Monday - a day set aside to recognize that every child matters.

Math:

We continued working with data collection and representation using graphs and charts. We also began looking at how to read and interpret graphs and it appears we have some work to do in this area.

Science:

"Rocks Rule" according to Bill Nye. And I agree. We've been working on understanding the layers of the earth so we can better understand the rock cycle. We will begin examining different types of rocks next week.

PE:

It's all about pacing ourselves as we built up our running stamina for the Terry Fox run.

For Next Week:

Orange Shirt Day Monday - Please try to remember to wear an orange short if you have one, but any orange, even an orange hair band, would be greatly appreciated. Orange Shirt Day is about recognizing that each child matters. We teach this in terms of belonging and connectedness with our families and /or the land as we look closely at two amazing stories: When We Were Alone, and Shi-Shi Etko - two different indigenous stories recounting their school experiences.

Box of Cards Fundraiser - the greeting card boxes have been sent home. Please see the included information sheet for more details.

Have a great weekend with warm thoughts!
